"And let us not grow weary while doing good,
for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart." -Galatians 6:9
This verse has been one of my many favorite verses of encouragement. There are a lot of times where we feel that we are doing everything right as we know how, wanting to please God and doing things in a way that glorifies Him. We seek honestly to serve Him and though we may do things right, unpleasant things happen or go down in our lives that seem unfair and we just don't understand why it's happening to us when all we know is that we haven't done anything to deserve certain things. In some cases it would seem that all of our good things go unnoticed quite often and that there is no point to continue working as hard as some of us do.
I find it encouraging that this verse serves as a reminder that in "due season", in God's timing, we are going to receive blessings from all that we have planted before and that it is going to pay off in the end. I actually just gave this verse to all my small group girls yesterday and told them to put it in a place where they would see it often on a daily basis and to be encouraged in what they are doing for the glory of God.
I also like Hebrews 12:1-2 which says:
"Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
Endurance is such a wonderful word here, and as a runner I find that I relate to this quite often. In order to run a race well, regardless of how fast you are, you need to have endurance. Endurance is what helps you to keep going even when you feel like you just can't anymore. In our walk with God, He is our endurance. That power boost you need when you simply cannot carry on in this world without His strength. He is the author and finisher of our faith. What a wonderful concept and fact! Not only that but I also like how it says that "who for the JOY that was set before Him..." It doesn't say happiness. Happiness is a feeling where as joy is a choice. I'm sure that it couldn't have been an easy thing for Jesus to lay down His own life for people then and those of us who would come later on in this generation and for those not even born yet. When He prayed, He asked that the cup would pass over Him if God saw fit. It was difficult, but He CHOSE to suffer so that He could enjoy having, once again, a personal relationship with us, His creation, His image, bringing us back to Eden and breaking down all the barriers in and outside of the church that kept us from truly experiencing Him. This is incredible news and how sad for it to fall on deaf ears. This is what we need to spur each other on in our spiritual walks/runs with Christ.
