Let me start this story with a very sunny and warm Sunday of sand volleyball. [Which was a BLAST. And to think it's just a taste of what we are going to get this season, so exciting!] I slept so good last night. Even though I was a bit tired after being woken up by my youngest brother to take him to school, I was very happy with the quality of sleep I got.
So, after having got some homework done and packing up some chinese food to go for lunch, I was off to work. Running a little late I must admit... got stuck behind a freight train. It didn't upset me though, I find it rather amusing, and more time to listen and sing along to music. Normally I just count the freight cars but this time I got lost in the music. So lost I can't even recall what I was listening to, that says a lot I'm sure... =P
At work, things were pretty insanely busy, but when I walked in, I welcomed the challenge in my spirit. "Okay Lord, here we go, let's do this." Bam, Bam, Bam, stuff was slowly getting done, at least in my mind, I thought we were doing pretty well considering all the work there was to do. We had a groove going. Then... all of a sudden... everything started flickering and BAM!!
LIGHTS OUT
Yes, the whole strip in our plaza went out. Totally unexpected. The good thing, I had been in this situation before maybe two times before last year so I knew how we could continue to take in orders and do pick ups. We had to do it "old school." Kind of fun actually. I mean, we don't get to use those old order slips very often.
Now, taking in the orders is the easy part. If the customer has a pick up, it becomes a little more tricky. Especially if they don't have their ticket. We have to take their name down and search all of our inventory. [Which is pretty broad] Knowing how the racking system works it helps to narrow it down if they remember about how many pieces they had in an order. However, when we don't have that kind of information, it's like playing eni mini miny moe in the dark. It's definitely a way to keep one on their toes. [Good for an ADHD mind if you ask me].
The power outage only lasted about a half hour or so. I had called my boss about it and told him we had it under control. Everything worked just fine after except that we didn't have internet which we need in order to get the credit card system up and running but it was alright. I think we handled it well.
One of my co-workers hadn't experienced anything like that before and was ready to just call it a day and leave. He even mentioned to me "I don't know how you can even be sane right now" my only reply in the moment was just to shrug and say "Stuff happens but you move on." It's true, things do happen but we need to keep moving forward.
Honestly, I know that my attitude wasn't all out of whack with this inconvenience being thrown at us because God is good. Feeling peaceful in a situation that is out of my control is a very awesome sensation.
My thought of the day that I'd like to pass along to you is this:
- Next time things get dark in life and you can't see, or your situation is just downright confusing, trust that the Lord has your back.
- Embrace the adventure. He will direct you in making the right choices ;]
